  2. Essential Equipment: Key items include a helmet for head protection, a high-quality PFD for safety and mobility, a quick-release leash for emergency detachment, and appropriate clothing and sturdy water shoes for comfort and protection.
  3. Mastering Whitewater SUP Techniques:
    • Understanding river hydrology is crucial for safely navigating rapids and utilizing river features for surfing.
    • Core maneuvers like the Peel Out, Eddy Turn, and Ferry are essential for controlling your journey through the rapids.
    • Adopting a surf stance and using the paddle as a third point of contact (tripod effect) enhances stability in turbulent waters.
  4. Inflatable vs. Hard Boards: Inflatable SUPs are preferred for whitewater due to their robust construction, full-length deck pads, and design features focused on stability and performance in unpredictable river conditions.

Gear Up for the Adventure

Choosing the Right Board: Our journey into whitewater SUP began with a determination to craft boards that could withstand the rigors of river rapids. Our inflatable SUPs, built with quadruple layers of military-grade PVC, represent the pinnacle of durability. Designed for stability and responsiveness, they're ideal for navigating the unpredictable waters of whitewater.

When we started Glide in 2010, our whole reason for existence was to create a SUP that would survive the carnage that rivers can dish out.  As whitewater paddlers who had always taken kayaks down whitewater, we were looking to see how a stand up paddle board would do in rivers. We ended up becoming early pioneers in the sport of whitewater paddle boarding. We now have one the most widely respected whitewater and river sup worldwide the Glide O2 Lochsa.
